This print is a beautiful sunset from Mudeford Spit, over Christchurch Harbour and on towards Stanpit Marsh and Christchurch.
This natural harbour, formed at the end of the Ice Age, is where the Rivers Avon and Stour marry up. It is surrounded by Stanpit Marsh (Nature Reserve), Wick Fields, Hengistbury Head and Mudeford Spit with its glorious sandy beach and famous beach huts. Plenty of protected wildlife, birds and animals. Many sailing boats flowing in and out of the harbour. At sunset all is calm as the boats bob and snooze on the waters.
Just like you, I sat enjoying my evening drink and watched as the saturations and hues in the sky gently gently softened and darkened as if the brightness button was being turned anticlockwise. The sun’s warmth spread out to the side – looking a bit like an enormous shooting star – as the calm still waters beneath took on the charm of their mauve and orange neighbours above. The boats slept, refreshing themselves for more adventure tomorrow. I wanted to capture so much that was harmoniously going on. Lush, don’t you think?
